General Provisions

 

1. I-EP Academic Committee (hereinafter referred to as “IAC”) is the highest academic institution of the Faculty with a view to improving educational science research and academic standards. It is also the highest professional organization to make decisions on teaching and research, construction of disciplines and teachers, professional title appraisal, promotion and other affairs of the Faculty.


2. IAC adheres to combining theory with practice, sticks to academic democracy, academic freedom and academic self-discipline, upholds the educational philosophy of active development, and carries out work for the purpose of promoting educational and teaching research in the Faculty.


3. I-EP pursues high academic standards by: following the national curriculum standards to practice inquiry-based teaching in class; encouraging students to explore, think independently and take ownership of their learning outcomes; and acting up to rigorous academic standards to help students develop self-confidence, independence and deeper subject knowledge. Committed to strengthening the national curriculum for compulsory education, integrating academic resources and reading up on national textbooks, I-EP has an ambitious goal, that is, students who achieve the average score of the national curriculum for compulsory education in Huangpu District will account for 85% in the first year, 90% in the third year and 95% in the fifth year respectively, and 100% of students in MYP will be enrolled in renowned international high schools with full compliance with IB standards.

Organizational Structure

 
1. IAC shall have one Chairman, one Vice-Chairman, one Consultant, one Director and one Deputy Director.


2. IAC is composed of several members who shall hold intermediate and senior professional and technical positions, reach a certain academic level, possess high professional ethics, adhere to principles, act in a fair and decent manner, and be truly career-minded. They shall be selected by each subject group and appointed by the Director of IAC, reflecting the academic authority and the representativeness of the discipline.


3. An IAC Office shall be set up in the Faculty to take charge of meeting convening, agenda arrangement, and other specific affairs.

Main Responsibilities

 
(I) Teaching Design


1. Set the development direction of educational science research for the Faculty and advise the Faculty on curriculum implementation, classroom teaching, optional courses, teaching quality, educational science research, etc.


2. Undertake research and development functions, and offer forward-looking opinions on the current situation and development of the Faculty for the Principal’s decision-making.


3. Review and evaluate the development of school-based curriculum plans and programs.


(II) Teaching Management


1. Conduct teaching management in accordance with IB standards to ensure compliance with IB’s official requirements and approval.


2. Review the Faculty’s educational research, teaching research programs, and educational science research project approval, and cooperate with relevant divisions to do a good job in the school-level educational science research project proposal, research process review, stage summary, conclusion and awards.


3. Examine the compilation and selection of optional textbooks to ensure correct political direction and avoid ideological deviation.


4. Track and monitor the implementation of the school-based curriculum.


5. Review and guide the academic exchanges and educational science research team training of the Faculty.


6. Review major educational science research projects submitted or undertaken by individual faculty members.


7. Formulate a teacher evaluation system, and review teachers’ performance grades, employment & dismissal, and promotion & demotion.


(III) Academic Evaluation


1. Give advice on the evaluation of teachers’ teaching and research work.


2. Review teachers’ projects and research results, and actively commend outstanding achievements in the Faculty.


(IV) Awards and Promotion of Professional Title


1. Review the awards program and system for teachers in the Faculty.


2. Review the recommendation list of teachers eligible for awards and promotion by right of excellent performance appraisal results.


(V) Social Resources Exploitation and Allocation


Coordinate the exploitation, integration and allocation of social resources and make full use of resources.

Division of Labor

 
Chairman: Zhu Ziping, coordinates and directs overall I-EP academic work.


Vice-Chairman: Ren Huaizhu, assists the Chairman in the overall planning and guidance of I-EP academic work.


Consultant: Xu Jian, offers specific guidance on I-EP academic work and gives advice for reference.


Director: Huang Yan, implements the I-EP academic development strategy; guides the development direction of educational science research in the Faculty; gives forward-looking opinions on the current situation and development of the Faculty; leads the Curriculum and Teacher Development Division to carry out daily work; strengthens the construction of teachers and promotes the evaluation and promotion of their professional titles; advises and organizes the implementation of integration with the national curriculum, and coordinates and gets through to CEP resources; elects members of the academic committee.


Deputy Director: Liu Wei, assists IAC Director to carry out work and presides over various IAC meetings; collects and prepares the topics for IAC plenary meetings and submits them to the Director for approval; suggests the content of academic conferences; properly keeps and files the minutes of each meeting for reference.At the same time, he also takes charge of MYP academic and teaching management comprehensively; develops a curriculum in line with the situations of the School and appropriate to IB requirements and draws up the I-EP secondary school syllabus under the direction of IAC; monitors and ensures that the curriculum is implemented in accordance with IB MYP requirements; formulates, implements and reviews various teaching routine management systems; takes charge of the daily teaching management of the Faculty; carries out a regular monthly assessment system for teachers; organizes training to promote teachers’ professional growth.


Committee Member: Robbie Faninghan, takes charge of PYP academic and teaching management comprehensively; develops a curriculum in line with the situations of the School and appropriate to IB requirements and draws up the I-EP primary school syllabus under the direction of IAC; monitors and ensures that the curriculum is implemented in accordance with IB PYP requirements; formulates, implements and reviews various teaching routine management systems; takes charge of the daily teaching management of the Faculty; carries out a regular monthly assessment system for teachers; organizes training to promote teachers’ professional growth.


Committee Member: Chen Weiying, assists the IEP Primary School Coordinator to complete the academic and daily teaching management of the Faculty.


Committee Member: Wang Zhipeng, assists the IEP Secondary School Coordinator to complete the academic and daily teaching management of the Faculty.


Committee Member: He Miaoxian, takes charge of teaching and research of the Chinese Language Department of IEP Primary School, assists and carries out UOI exploration activities; establishes a path for integrating the IB Chinese curriculum with the national curriculum;


Committee Member: Li Manqing, takes charge of teaching and research of the Mathematics Department of IEP Primary School, assists and carries out UOI exploration activities; establishes a path for integrating the IB mathematics curriculum with the national curriculum.


Committee Member: Liu Hangru, takes charge of teaching and research of the Language Support Department of IEP Primary School, assists and carries out UOI exploration activities; establishes a path for integrating the IB language curriculum with the national curriculum.


Committee Member: Wu Jinyang, takes charge of teaching and research of the PE Department of IEP Primary School, assists and carries out UOI exploration activities; establishes a path for integrating the IB PE curriculum with the national curriculum;


Committee Member: Chen Junsi, takes charge of teaching and research of the Human Sciences Department of IEP Secondary School, assists and carries out UOI exploration activities; establishes a path for integrating the IB Chinese curriculum with the national curriculum.


Committee Member: Ana Isailovic, takes charge of teaching and research of the English Language Department of IEP Secondary School, assists and carries out UOI exploration activities; establishes a path for integrating the IB English curriculum with the national curriculum.


Committee Member: Zeng Xiaoli, takes charge of teaching and research of the Mathematics Department of IEP Secondary School, assists and carries out UOI exploration activities; establishes a path for integrating the IB mathematics curriculum with the national curriculum.


Committee Member: Huang Yan, takes charge of teaching and research of the Science Department of IEP Secondary School, assists and carries out UOI exploration activities; establishes a path for integrating the IB science curriculum with the national curriculum.

Operation Mechanism


(I) Convening of Meetings


1. IAC shall implement a regular meeting system and hold at least one plenary meeting per month.


2. Under exceptional circumstances, a plenary meeting may be temporarily convened on the proposal of the IAC Director or Deputy Director, or on the joint proposal of more than 1/3 of IAC members.


3. IAC Director shall be responsible for convening and presiding over or may entrust the Deputy Director to convene and preside over meetings.


4. A plenary meeting shall only be held when more than 2/3 of IAC members are present.


5. The agenda of an IAC plenary meeting shall be determined and communicated to the members present. Subject to the consent of more than 1/3 of the members attending the meeting, additional topics may be added temporarily.


(II) Decision-making at the Meetings


1. IAC shall follow the principle of majority rule in its decision-making, and major decisions may only be adopted with the approval of more than 2/3 of the members present.


2. Decisions on matters deliberated upon by or assessed at IAC meetings shall generally be made by secret ballot, or, according to the nature of the matter, real-name voting may also apply.


3. If any matters reviewed or assessed at IAC meetings are related to a member, or if a member has an interest in such matters, the relevant member shall evade the issue.


4. Any and all decisions made by IAC shall be publicized. If there is any objection, a plenary meeting for reconsideration may be convened with the consent of more than 1/3 of the members. The decision made after reconsideration shall be final.


During the implementation of the Constitution, if there is any matter not covered hereby, the Primary School and Middle School shall put forward an amendment proposal, which shall be approved by the Director and more than 2/3 of the members of IAC, and then submitted to the Principal’s Office for approval.
